Restore guide

Restore a cPanel account fast (wget → WHM)

Recommended method: download the backup directly onto your destination server using the secure wget URL (root SSH), then restore using WHM’s official restore tool.

Method 1 (recommended): wget server-to-server

1) SSH to your destination server as root
2) Download using your secure wget URL
3) Restore in WHM from a local cpmove file

wget (example token)
cd /root
wget -L --content-disposition --trust-server-names \
'https://cpbackup.net/backup?action=downloadtoken&token=EXAMPLE_TOKEN'
Restore in WHM (official tool)

WHM → Home → Transfers → Transfer or Restore a cPanel Account
Under Transfer Options choose Restore from a local cpmove file, select the downloaded archive (e.g. in /root), then click Restore.

Method 2: Upload a file to restore (small backups)

If the backup is small, you can use Upload a file to restore. Server-to-server (wget) is usually faster for large backups.

Full restore vs Restricted Restore

For trusted backups, use a normal full restore. If you enable restricted restore, some items may not be restored. (See cPanel documentation for details.)
Troubleshooting

Common restore issues (quick checks)

Most restores fail due to disk space, permissions, or incomplete downloads.

Disk space

Make sure you have enough free space for the archive and extraction/restore process (large accounts can require significant temporary space).

Expired token / invalid link

If the wget URL has expired, generate a new one in Backup Manager and retry.

Interrupted download

Re-run the download and confirm the file size matches expectations before restoring.
